Writing
| Elementary/Middle School Class At this age, just getting the students to write is the main objective. Students will be given several writing prompts at each class, so the students are constantly producing work. The goal is to get them excited about writing and help them to find their voice. |
| High School Class The class is structured around a very brief lecture, introducing the topic of the day (ex: plot, character, etc), then we might look at a few story/novel excerpts that exemplify the topic, then we would work from writing prompts that will also tie in with the topic of the day. As students start producing substantial pieces of work, we might incorporate workshops into class time. |
| Adult Class The classes will be in a workshop setting. Each class will focus on a specific genre, so we can look at the elements of that particular genre (murder mystery, southern fiction, etc), then look to see how each student is utilizing/working with those elements in his/her fiction. In genre-focused classes, I would also provide examples of stories/novels/poetry that fit within the framework of said genre. |
